But often, we think that requires something big.

A perfect routine.
A structured family devotional every day.
Doing everything “right.”

And when life doesn’t look like that, it’s easy to feel like we’re falling short. But building a Christ-centered home doesn’t happen in big, perfect moments.

It’s shaped in the small, faithful rhythms of everyday life.

A Christ-Centered Home Is Built in the Ordinary

We can often view the mundane things we do daily, like cooking meals for our family, loading another basket of laundry, cleaning the home, educating our children, and everything else, as ordinary. Still, it is here in the daily routines that we actually shape and build a Christ-centered home.

God works through the ordinary rhythms of home life. This is where faith is lived out- in the doing. It’s not often in huge, elaborate routines, but in the small, unseen moments that matter most.

Plus, our kids get to witness our faith lived out in the mundane moments, and what a testimony to God’s goodness when we walk in His strength before our children’s eyes.

Daily Rhythms Shape the Culture of Your Home

What you do repeatedly becomes what your home feels like. Have you considered what you want your home to feel like? Are there daily rhythms that need to be changed or removed altogether?

You see, the rhythms we create- our stability, our peace, and our connection- impact the culture of our home and our kids. Galatians 5:22-23 says, “but the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” The fruit of the Spirit helps us shape the daily rhythms of our home in our actions, our tone, and our love towards our family.

Friend, God desires us to walk in His Spirit, and when we do, we shape the culture of our home to be centered on Him.

Faith Is Meant to Be Woven Into Daily Life

While attending church as a family is significant, how we weave our faith Monday through Saturday has a much greater and lasting impact in building a Christ-centered home.

The words in Deuteronomy 6:6–7 give us the “how-to” in weaving our faith into our daily life- “and these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise”. Wow, what a powerful verse and a beautiful reminder to us as we go about our daily routines.

Our everyday rhythms- from the morning time, to the meals we make, to the bedtime routine, and everything in between- are simple ways to walk out our faith. In the small moments at the breakfast table, we can talk about God, in the car ride to practice, we can talk to God with our kids, or while heading to bed, we can thank God for His goodness today.

When we include God in all we do, our faith pours over in the daily, ordinary rhythms of life.

Small Rhythms Are More Sustainable Than Big Plans

As busy mothers, we can sometimes get trapped in big, elaborate homemaking plans, but high expectations often lead to burnout.

Instead, we can choose small daily rhythms that are realistic and can be repeated over time. This routine frequently leads to more consistency, sustainability, and a peaceful mama.

The rhythms we chose don’t have to be complicated to be meaningful.

Examples of Simple Faith Rhythms

In our home, we have a few simple faith rhythms we consistently follow. It doesn’t always go as planned, and that’s okay, but the effort is always made.

1. For starters, A Simple Morning Routine and Prayer. My kids will usually get dressed and be ready for the day, as I feed my baby and dig into God’s word. Some mornings are slow and quiet, while others are loud and interrupted. Either way, I always finish with a short prayer aloud for my kids to hear and be a part of.
2. Next, A Consistent Dinner Rhythm. While the dinner time varies, we do follow a consistent pattern at the dinner table. For instance, the first person who eats gets to pray for the meal, and after, we all go around saying two things we are grateful for and one way we served. This simple rhythm helps our family shift our focus and turns an ordinary dinner into something more meaningful.
3. Finally, A Simple Bedtime Prayer Together. Some nights, we will have a short family Bible study followed by a family prayer, and other nights, we only get to the family prayer. Either way, the time spent together creates a consistent ending to our day and brings us all, glorifying our Savior, together.

The simple faith rhythms you choose to follow in your family don’t have to be elaborate or perfect. Just choose to keep them meaningful and consistent.

These Rhythms Shape Your Children Over Time

While homemaking can sometimes seem unseen, the rhythms we pursue in our homes will shape our children over time. As God-fearing, Jesus-loving mothers, we work diligently to instill our faith in kids and pray that they will follow, love, and serve Christ, and even when they are old, they will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6).

As time goes on, your children will begin to expect the morning prayer, recognize gratitude, and see faith modeled daily. You’re shaping hearts, not just managing a home. This homemaking is Kingdom work.

Start Small and Stay Consistent

As you start to build rhythms into your family’s daily routine, start small and stay consistent. When we try to add all our ideas at once, overwhelm and burnout can happen sometimes.

Instead, choose 1-2 small rhythms you can begin with today and do them consistently. Over time, this will grow and become a part of your family’s culture.

Small beginnings lead to lasting impact.

A Christ-Centered Home Is Built Slowly

Mama, the small things we do each day may feel ordinary, but over time, they shape a home where faith is lived, seen, and remembered.

When we keep our eyes and hearts in the Word and prayer, we will have an overflow to give to our families. This slow, consistent pouring begins to grow and shape our homes to be centered on Christ.

This year, I wanted something simple. Something that helps us slow down, reflect, and place our hearts on Jesus in the days leading up to Easter.

What is Holy Week?

Holy week is the week leading up to the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Each day of the week, starting on Palm Sunday, we walk daily through the final days of Jesus’ life and finish on Resurrection Sunday. As we dive into God’s word each day as a family, we reflect, prepare, and remember the sacrifice Jesus paid on the cross for our sins. Thank you, Jesus!

Why Observe Holy Week as a Family?

When we observe holy week as a family, it will intentionally refocus our hearts together. This then allows us to slow down as a family and come together in God’s Word. Additionally, Easter is often seen in the world as egg hunts, bunnies, and Easter baskets, but when we walk through it as a family, we help our kids understand Easter is beyond eggs/baskets. It’s a special time to disciple our kids in why Easter is so important to our family and why we celebrate it in the first place.

A Simple Way to Walk Through Holy Week at Home

As we walk through Holy Week at home as a family, it doesn’t have to be complicated or overwhelming. Instead, it’s less about doing more and more and more about keeping it simple and consistent. By setting aside 10-15 minutes each day, you can read scripture together and discuss God’s Word as a family.

Keep It Simple

Remember this- it’s less about perfection and more about consistency. Some days our kids will behave well and listen quietly, and the next day it’s loud with so many distractions. Either way, the Holy Spirit is working in our kids’ hearts and ours. When we spend time discipling our kids in God’s Word, no time spent is ever wasted. We can have faith that seeds are being planted in their little hearts and will later sprout beautifully in God’s perfect timing.

Preparing Your Heart for Easter

As we approach this week, let’s not get caught up in the details of how we picture the days going, but rather slow it down and keep it simple and consistent. God isn’t after our perfections; He’s after our hearts. Finally, pray this week as a family, spend time in His Word together, and have fun together. Let us keep our eyes and hearts on remembering Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross and the hope we have in His resurrection.

8 Ways To Show Your Kids the Love of Jesus

1. Model Christlike Love at Home

Children learn best by watching. Show them Jesus through your patience, forgiveness, and servant-hearted actions. Let them see you praying, reading the Bible, and offering grace. When you mess up (as all parents do), apologize and seek forgiveness—this models humility and redemption.

2. Pray With and For Them

And while the Bible is our ultimate guide, there’s something special about curling up with a story that weaves Biblical truth into a child’s world, one page at a time. Whether it’s at bedtime, during homeschool, or snuggled on the couch on a rainy day, read-alouds are powerful tools for planting seeds of faith.

Book 1

The Jesus Storybook Bible

This is a wonderful BIble to start with little ones. It’s filled with beautiful illustrations and easy-to-understand Biblical truth. From the Old Testament through the New Testament, as the Story unfolds, children will clearly see that Jesus is at the center of God’s great story of salvation—and at the center of their story too. My kids adored this Bible, and I even grew deeper in my faith and understanding of God’s truth because of this Bible.

Book 2

The Ology: Ancient Truths, Ever New

This book is rich with Biblical truth, while filled with abstract concepts from the Bible, but makes them easier to understand with the use of creative examples, illustrations, and analogies. My kids and I enjoy this book so much, and we use it during our homeschool time.

Book 3

Brave Girls

My oldest, who is seven, loved this read aloud. We would read it as a bedtime story, and each chapter was filled with so much Biblical truth and real-life application. The girls- Hope, Glory, Faith, Honor, and Gracie were each wonderful to dive into their stories and get to know God deeper, and how He makes ordinary girls like them strong and courageous! 

Book 4

The Armor of God 

All my kids (ages 4, 6, and 10) enjoy this read-aloud on Ephesians 6:10-18. The book does a wonderful job teaching kids about the protective armor of God and how they can apply this Biblical principle. It’s filled with real-life applications and beautiful illustrations.

Book 5

The Wonder of Creation

This is a wonderful read-aloud that we use during homeschool. Each of the 100 devotions features a scientific fact or an easy activity for exploring faith, a short Bible verse, and a closing prayer. This book shows God’s hand in all creation and how we can witness Him daily.

Book 6

When God Made You

This read-aloud is so good! My goodness, I enjoy reading this book aloud to my kids. It’s filled with Biblical truth and inspires young readers to learn about their own special gifts and how they fit into God’s divine plan as they grow, explore, and begin to create for themselves. Even as an adult, this read aloud touched my heart.

Book 7

God’s Wisdom for Little Girls

This read-aloud draws wisdom from the book of Proverbs and encourages young girls to apply the positive traits and qualities illustrated in each verse. The illustrations are so timeless and calming to the heart. It provides beautiful reminders to my girls of who they are and who they belong to.

Book 8

God’s Wisdom for Little Boys

This read-aloud is so wonderful for boys and reminds them of how God made them in His image. There is so much Godly wisdom pulled from the book of Proverbs, and teaching young boys today how God will help them become men of God tomorrow. The illustrations are beautiful, and my son enjoyed reading this together.

One of my favorite Bible verses is in Numbers.

Now, if you have read through the book of Numbers, you know it begins with a set of rules and conditions laid out for God’s people.

They have recently been rescued from slavery and walked through walls of water, and now God has given His people the way to cleanse themselves when they come in the presence of their holy God.

When we reach Numbers 6, we find God reminding the Israelites that they are set apart as a holy nation in contrast to the rest of the world and receive a blessing.

The blessing God specifically told Moses, “Tell Aaron and his sons, ‘This is how you are to bless the Israelites. Say to them…

“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace (Numbers 6:24-26).”

Friends, this blessing from the Lord is still for us today.

In every blessing in this verse, God makes it known it is from Him and Him alone.

If your soul is weary today, declare this blessing over your life.

Friend, read this verse out loud and hear how God speaks life over you.

Pray this prayer today:

Lord, you have commanded your children to be strong and courageous. 

We can rest in this encouragement and not in our strength, but knowing your word does not stop there. 

Scripture goes on to say we do not need to be afraid or lose heart because You, Lord, are with us wherever we go. 

The omnipresence of the Lord fills our hearts and minds with the strength and courage we need to take that next step. 

It reveals that we are not alone in our suffering, temptations, or struggles. He is with us.

Lord, I praise you for the constant reminder and presence of your love for me and your willingness to encourage my frail heart. 

In you, Lord, I know I am strong and courageous. 

And for this, I sing Hallelujah.

You, friend, are deeply Loved by our Creator.

The One who formed the shooting stars and deep oceans. The One who created the singing birds and the sweet taste of berries.

He was so intentional in everything He created- everything has a purpose.

And only a creator would know what His creation would need to be fulfilled.

It is no wonder that our hearts desire nothing more than His presence.

Jesus says in John 15:5, “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing”.

Friend, as the branches, it is our purpose to produce fruit, but we cannot do it by ourselves. We need Jesus as our anchor- our vine.

When we root our lives in Him, we can experience nourishment and resurrection power.

Many times, however, we cling to temporary worldly support that will not sustain us or give us eternal life.

Only Jesus is the abundant life that can flow through us when we choose to seek Him above all else.

The late Elisabeth Elliot said- the secret of joy is Christ in me- not me in a different set of circumstances.

Friend, whatever you face today, I pray you keep yourself connected to the One who knows what you need.

Our Creator is the only One who can fulfill and cover you with His unexplainable peace.

Cling to Him today.

Pray this prayer today:

Heavenly Father, I praise you today.

You are Almighty, ever-lasting, and a just judge.

Thank you for sending your only son Jesus to stand before us and make us innocent before your eyes again.

His death on the cross washed away our sins, and His resurrected life restored us to you.

What a gift that was and still is.

Lord, I ask for new mercies and a renewed heart today.

I pray the holy spirit will guide my walk today and will guide my words, thoughts, and actions.

I pray to be your vessel and an example of your love to my children and husband.

Father, keep me walking righteously today and help my weary heart rejoice.

In Your powerful name, I pray.

Amen.

One of the most beautiful gifts we have as followers of Christ is His constant protection.

It is written- Those who dwell in the shelter of the Most High will indeed abide in the shadow of the Almighty (Psalm 91:1).

This imagery of finding refuge in our heavenly Father’s arms brings us peace and rest after we have sought shelter elsewhere for our worries and struggles.

Today let us declare this verse over our life, home, family, marriage, and friendships.

We must remind ourselves daily that God is our refuge, He is our shelter, He is our protection, and we can trust in Him.

Friend, so many of the battles we face daily can be released when we speak His truth over our lives.

The Almighty is present and never not with us.

Psalm 91:9-10 goes on declaring- If you make the Lord your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter, no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home.

Today, if your heart is weary, call upon the One who can set you free.

Our Maker has created us to be in constant communication with Him and desires for us to depend on Him solely.

Friend, He will not forsake you in your time of trouble but will offer you protection when you dwell in Him.

I pray over your hardships today, friend.

I pray whatever difficult season you are facing today or will face in the future, that you encounter the Lord’s presence so clearly.

He is with you, always.
