Seek God And His Word First

Friends, let us not forget to seek God and His word first.

The Bible is the daily nourishment our souls so desperately desire.

While I have heard many people claim that the Bible is irrelevant today, I would say it is even more relevant today than ever before.

It does not take much to look around and witness how broken the world is around us.

We can find our friends, family members, or even ourselves searching for happiness, fulfillment, or acceptance through other people, success, drugs, alcohol, eating disorders, toxic relationships, etc.

And yet, none of those things will ever fulfill us. They will only leave us searching for more and unhappy long-term.

The Bible is the only piece of writing that can change your life here on Earth and in eternity because it is God-breathed and perfect in every way.

Billy Graham once said, “The very practice of reading [the Bible] will have a purifying effect upon your mind and heart. Let nothing take the place of this daily exercise.”

And I, too, have experienced this purifying effect firsthand.

One of my favorite verses, Romans 12:2 says- “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect”.

The renewing of our mind happens when we decide to seek God and His Word first.

I can remember picking up my Bible for the first time over five years ago and having this profound change in how I viewed my marriage, my parenting, and my friendships as I began to view my life through a Biblical lens instead of the lens of the world.

The Lord was renewing and purifying my mind through reading His word, which allowed me to discern God’s will in my life and grow a strong desire to be obedient to His good and perfect will.

This new obedience was not in fear or guilt towards God because of my past sins but out of pure love for my heavenly Father, who called me by name and redeemed my heart.

Friend, if you find yourself constantly searching for someone or something to fulfill you, may I gently remind you that only God has the power to do that.

He is your creator, and only He has the power and authority to make you new and purify your heart and mind.

I pray today you desire to seek Him and follow His will first.
