He Is Eternal Life

Friend, He is eternal life.

Lord, to whom shall we go?

These are the words of Peter to Jesus.

In John 6, we witness the miraculous miracles and blessings bestowed by the Lord.

First, Jesus feeds the five thousand (with leftovers).

Then, the disciples see Jesus walking on water (Woah, imagine seeing that).

Later, Jesus speaks of Himself as the “Bread of Life” to a crowd that has been following Him since the feeding of the five thousand, and boy, oh boy, were they confused when He starts talking about being from heaven and being the living bread they should eat to live forever (these folks just wanted Him to make more food).

Finally, we hear Jesus speak the words of eternal life.

And it was here, in His statements of being the One the people must first seek to receive eternal life where many turned away and stopped following Him because they could not get past their desires or ideas of what the coming Messiah would be like.

They, instead, insisted on Jesus showing them signs that He was truly the Chosen One.

And so, scripture tells us in John 6:66 that Jesus turned to His disciples asking, “Do you want to go away as well?”

If we’re being honest, we, too, can sometimes be the recipient of this question from Jesus.

Do we want to turn away too?

Are we waiting on a sign, a prayer, a miracle, or more evidence to believe in who Jesus is?

Do we question our current circumstances and doubt if the Holy One can come through for us?

Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life”.

Friend, if not Jesus, then whom do we turn to?

If not Jesus, whom do we depend on?

If not Jesus, whom do we receive eternal life from?

Scripture tells us to be apart from Jesus is death.

As believers, we are not exempt from struggles, distress, temptation, or suffering.

But, when we accept Jesus into our hearts and surrender our lives to Him, we no longer have to depend on our strengths and abilities to endure life’s hardships.

Instead, we can delight in our struggles, knowing the Almighty is within us fighting our battles.

I pray that today your heart fully depends on Jesus, knowing apart from Him, there is only death, but with Him, there is everlasting life.
