He Is The Christ

Friend, He is who He says He is, He is the Christ.

Friend, who do you say Jesus is?

This simple yet profound question has been tugging on my heart.

In Matthew 16:13-20, we read Jesus and His disciples have just entered Caesarea Philippi. It is here where they find rest, and Jesus speaks boldly to His disciples before heading into Jerusalem for His imminent death.

Jesus begins by asking His disciples, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am? (Matt.16:13).

Now, Jesus is the Almighty, so we can assume He knew the answer to this question, but here He gives His disciples a chance to ponder who they truly think He is too.

They answer with- “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets”.

At this point, Jesus had already fulfilled many miracles, healed the sick, and raised the dead, yet many still did not believe He was the coming Messiah.

And so, Jesus asked His disciples this one final question, “But who do you say I am?” (Matt. 16:15).

Let’s pause here.

Many people in that era and our time today have opinions and conclusions about who they think Jesus is.

And, so, it is wise for us to use discernment and be attentive to what others around us say about Who He is because of the influence they can have on our walk with Jesus.

We continue reading Matthew 16:16 with Simon Peter answering Jesus’s final question saying, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God”.

As a believer, this verse gives me chills.

I can imagine Jesus smiling upon hearing this confession of faith from Peter. His response was without hesitation and began with a strong “You, You, are the Christ”.

So powerful.

And so, friend, who do you say Jesus is?

John Newton once said, “How sweet the name of Jesus sounds in a believer’s ear! It soothes his sorrows, heals his wounds, and drives away his fear”.

Friend, I pray today that when you hear the name Jesus, your heart leaps for joy, knowing He is the Christ, the Son of the living God.

I pray today a fire ignites inside your soul and you desire to live boldly for Christ.

He loves you endlessly, friend.
