And while the Bible is our ultimate guide, there’s something special about curling up with a story that weaves Biblical truth into a child’s world, one page at a time. Whether it’s at bedtime, during homeschool, or snuggled on the couch on a rainy day, read-alouds are powerful tools for planting seeds of faith.

Book 1

The Jesus Storybook Bible

This is a wonderful BIble to start with little ones. It’s filled with beautiful illustrations and easy-to-understand Biblical truth. From the Old Testament through the New Testament, as the Story unfolds, children will clearly see that Jesus is at the center of God’s great story of salvation—and at the center of their story too. My kids adored this Bible, and I even grew deeper in my faith and understanding of God’s truth because of this Bible.

Book 2

The Ology: Ancient Truths, Ever New

This book is rich with Biblical truth, while filled with abstract concepts from the Bible, but makes them easier to understand with the use of creative examples, illustrations, and analogies. My kids and I enjoy this book so much, and we use it during our homeschool time.

Book 3

Brave Girls

My oldest, who is seven, loved this read aloud. We would read it as a bedtime story, and each chapter was filled with so much Biblical truth and real-life application. The girls- Hope, Glory, Faith, Honor, and Gracie were each wonderful to dive into their stories and get to know God deeper, and how He makes ordinary girls like them strong and courageous! 

Book 4

The Armor of God 

All my kids (ages 4, 6, and 10) enjoy this read-aloud on Ephesians 6:10-18. The book does a wonderful job teaching kids about the protective armor of God and how they can apply this Biblical principle. It’s filled with real-life applications and beautiful illustrations.

Book 5

The Wonder of Creation

This is a wonderful read-aloud that we use during homeschool. Each of the 100 devotions features a scientific fact or an easy activity for exploring faith, a short Bible verse, and a closing prayer. This book shows God’s hand in all creation and how we can witness Him daily.

Book 6

When God Made You

This read-aloud is so good! My goodness, I enjoy reading this book aloud to my kids. It’s filled with Biblical truth and inspires young readers to learn about their own special gifts and how they fit into God’s divine plan as they grow, explore, and begin to create for themselves. Even as an adult, this read aloud touched my heart.

Book 7

God’s Wisdom for Little Girls

This read-aloud draws wisdom from the book of Proverbs and encourages young girls to apply the positive traits and qualities illustrated in each verse. The illustrations are so timeless and calming to the heart. It provides beautiful reminders to my girls of who they are and who they belong to.

Book 8

God’s Wisdom for Little Boys

This read-aloud is so wonderful for boys and reminds them of how God made them in His image. There is so much Godly wisdom pulled from the book of Proverbs, and teaching young boys today how God will help them become men of God tomorrow. The illustrations are beautiful, and my son enjoyed reading this together.

A humble, unpretentious faith could rightly be called a “child-like faith.”

In Matthew 18:1-9, we hear Jesus preaching to His disciples about this child-like belief.

At one point, while Jesus was talking to His disciples, children attempted to come to Him, but the disciples stopped them.

This act of preventing the children from coming to Jesus did not sit well with Him.

But then, Jesus brings forth the children Himself and says, ”Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them, for such is the kingdom of heaven”.

Children are valuable and loved by Christ, so much so that He further declares, “Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of God” (v. 4). Unless we do so, we cannot even enter Jesus’ kingdom. But whoever does so is great in His kingdom”.

You see, kids have this sense of believing that we adults can learn from.

These kids in Matthew, who were attempting to reach Jesus, knew with a pure heart that He was worthy of following without doubt.

Friends to become like a little child, as Jesus says, means that we humbly accept that there are things that we cannot understand about the greatness of God's plan and simply take Him at His Word.

We can have child-like faith with peace in our souls because of our heavenly Father’s good care for us.

He is always loving us, pursuing us, and pruning us to become Who He created us to be.

Let us walk in child-like faith today and every day after.

Bible Studying Tools

When it comes time to study the Bible, there are a few tools I like to use that help me stay organized within my Bible and also allow me to write out what God is speaking to my heart that day.

A Journaling Bible

A journaling Bible has extra space on the edges that give you room to write out any verses that speak to you while reading your Bible or thoughts you may want to jot down. While there are many places to purchase journaling Bibles, Hosanna Revival has some of the prettiest journaling Bibles.

Unfortunately, they no longer have the print I purchased, but this one in the ESV translation is beautiful! They always come out with new prints, and you can even request one to be hand-painted. I can’t recommend their Bibles enough!

A Journal

There are many times when I am about to start reading my Bible, but so many thoughts are running through my head, and I need to seek the Holy Spirit to help me focus. This is where a journal comes in handy! Cultivate What Matters have these- write the word journals that I adore and love. Each page lets you write out gratitudes, verses, and additional writing space to dump anything on your heart.

When my mind is having difficulty focusing, I like to use this space to write what’s on my heart before I read my Bible. Other times, I’ll write something after I have spent time in His word and write out what spoke to me. A standard journal is just as useful during Bible study too. The goal is to have a tool to jot down anything weighing on your heart and give it to God in prayer.

Bible Tabs

Because the Bible is made up of 66 books, it can get a bit tricky looking for a specific book. These Bible tabs have been so helpful and useful since adding them to my journaling Bible. The tabs make it more effortless to flip back and forth between books and easily find what I am looking for without taking too much time. 

Colored Pens/Pouch

I am all about colored pens! When using a journaling Bible, it is just fun to use different colored pens like these ones to write out verses, drawings, or underline scripture. Bible Study Resources

I know reading the Bible for the first time can be confusing and intimating but as someone who was once in your shoes, please keep reading.

Scripture tells us the word of God is alive and active (Hebrews 4:12), and the holy spirit will start revealing verses to you that will equip you in your current season and seasons to come. Keep praying for God to help you better understand His Word, and He will do that for you.

He loves those who seek Him and who seek Him with their whole heart (Proverbs 8:17).

Blue Letter Bible

The Blue Letter Bible site will become your best friend. They offer many Bible translations, commentaries, encyclopedias, maps/images, and so much more. I recommend bookmarking their site on your computer and phone so that you can easily access them when you need a better understanding of a Bible verse, historical context, or even searching for specific words. 

Preceptaustin

I first learned about Preceptaustin from a Bible study at my local church. This online resource is incredible and one I recommend using asap. The commentaries provided are incredibly detailed and break down every single Bible verse so well. The writer’s testimony is so powerful and worth the read. This resource has been so essential for me, and I know it will be so helpful during your Bible studying time. 

Proverbs 31

Proverbs 31 is an online women’s ministry and offers many great online resources from Bible studies, the first five app, books, and daily devotions. Lysa (the founder) has a powerful testimony and is a phenomenal writer. Her book, Forgiving What You Can’t Forget, will change how you view forgiveness as it certainly did for me. Check them out today.

Well-Watered Women

Oh, how I love Well-Watered Women. They are another online women’s ministry whose focus is to keep us deeply rooted in God’s word. A mission I can get behind! They have so many resources from journals, Bible studies, apparel, drinkware, and much more. I recommend taking a tour of their site and checking out anything that calls out to you.
